Remote Sensing and SAR

Content

The module delivers basic knowledge about the use of radar satellite imagery in the frame of Remote Sensing and Geodesy. The contents reach from technical aspects concerning image generation until the evaluation of results. Focus of the lectures and exercises is the whole processing chain, including signal focusing, interferometric processing and geocoding. Further emphasis is put on the "reading" of amplitude and phase images as well as the interpretation of different signal contributions. The theoretical concepts are accompanied by practical exercises with a total fraction of 50%, which foster the ability of the learners to process and visualize SAR data. Recent and former SAR missions whose data archives form the basis of most research and application-orientated projects, are discussed. In the frame of a praxis-orientated scenario, the students gain insight into the ordering process of SAR scenes via the software EOLI-AS which is provided by the European Space Agency (ESA).
